The Thursday Traveling League is playing at Black Mountain Golf Club on May 23rd.

PICK A PRO Event

No one picked GUILIA MOLINARO who earned $15,000 by finishing first at 13 under par over the 3 day tournament.

JACKIE (Jacklyn) KIRKEY picked Jacklyn Sweeney  who tied for 3rd place at 7 under, and earned $6056.  Jackie picked Sweeney because they share the same first name and spell it exactly the same.

SUSAN VAN NESS picked Courtney Massey of Australia simply at random from looking at the list of players who had won money this season.  Courtney came in tied for 5th at 6 under and earned $3897.

To determine our winner, we combined the pro’s score with the EWGA member’s net score on Tuesday night.

Jackie had a net 32, subtracted 7 strokes to end up with a score of 25 which was first place. She got $25.

Susan had a net 36, subtracted 6 strokes and came in 2nd with a score of $30. She won $10.

We had 10 EWGA members volunteer on Sunday.  Our jobs included: updating the score board on #9, being in charge of “the quiet sign”, manning the snack bar, watching for out-of-bound drives, and being standard bearers.   In addition, Betty Ann Modaff hosted  two players in her home all week.   We all agreed it was even more fun than we had expected.  We saw some great young women golfers and it was  exciting being up close.

  Why have a handicap?

  • Having a handicap can make your game more fun. Everyone comes to the first tee at the same level so when you win, it's because you played better that day, not because you're a better player all the time.

  • Handicaps travel with you. The more difficult a course the more handicap you get.

  • Handicaps give you a method to track your progress. As you learn more and play more, you'll see your handicap go down.

  • Handicaps allow you to play in tournaments. Many events require an official handicap. Having a handicap means you're ready to play.
